Adivasi Writers: An Introduction to India's Indigenous Literature

Displacement and Dispossession: Big dams, anti-Dam Activism, labor displacement.

Texts and writers engaging with issues of displacement and dispossession of Adivasis from their land.

One major theme are big dams, which have displaced millions of Adivasi people over more than 75 years.

Increasingly, Adivasi writers are also deeply concerned about displacement of Adivasis seeking out economic opportunity as laborers in other Indian states. Many laborers migrating to other parts of India in this way are exploited; they are also at risk of cultural and linguistic dispersion. (See Walter Bhengra Tarun's story, "Sangi," for an example of this.)
