Miasma Poem
Fleeing Death: Victorian Paranoia Concerning Public HealthCharles Dickens's own magazine, Household Words, also seems to have contributed to the spectacle of public health. His short poem focuses on the terror of miasma--the sickening cloud of influence hovering over and around London. Here the fog is responsible for physical deterioration and death (cholera).
