Stories dealing with the transition from small town life to the big city; the encounter with modernity; alienation of urban life, and so on. 

This topic was very relevant to Tagore personally, since he was raised in Calcutta (Kolkata), but his experiences in the countryside really opened his eyes and gave him a good deal of material.
