Visions of America: Public Representations of the United States Circulating in India from 1870-1900

American Dude

From descriptions recently published in the press of the United States we gather that an American "dude" in his war-paint is an object worth looking at. A waistcoat embroidered with seed-pearls, a cord of gold running up his trousers, underclothing of pink silk, his manly bosom encased in a corset of apple-green satin, he may well regard himself as a personification of the art of dress in its highest development.
