African American Poetry: A Digital Anthology

Waring Cuney, "Forgetting" (1928)

FORGETTING

Not tomorrow
Or the day after . . .
Although I have stemmed
The flow of tears
With careless laughter,
Remembrance reminds me:
The spot in my heart
Where love's first flower
Grew . . . is barren now
Because of you.
