African American Poetry: A Digital Anthology

Waring Cuney, "Nude Walker" (1929)

I walk nude along a lonely path
And oh, the burn of winds upon my body!
Love was a garment I wore
Before the hands of Fate
Cruelly stripped me naked.

Now without the warmth
Of a woman's love,
I walk nude along my path.

Oh, the burn of winds upon my body!
Oh, the cry of winds in my lorn heart!
