titledcterms:titleA Pinchbeck Goddess (Alice MacDonald Fleming, 1897)
descriptiondcterms:descriptionNovel by Alice MacDonald Fleming (Alice Kipling; Beatrice Kipling; "Trix" Kipling; 1897)
contentsioc:contentThis novel by Alice MacDonald Fleming expands on her 1886 short story of the same title, published in the Civil & Military Gazette. The theme -- of a single woman who is neglected during the peak social season in Simla, who then disguises herself as a glamorous widow -- is substantially similar. Unlike her first novel, which was written and published in India, this novel by Fleming was written and first published in England and the U.S.

Text prepared and annotated by Amardeep Singh, Lehigh University, based on the 1897 American edition of the novel scanned by Google Books.
