Anglo-Afghan Gatling Guns in Action

This media gallery includes two photos. The first of which is a picture of Gatling guns being fielded by the British military during the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-80). The wide open spaces in Afghanistan were excellent for the Gatling gun as it enabled the users to take full advantage of its wide field of fire. The war was waged primarily to prevent the Russian Empire from expanding into British India. The second photo is a portrait of Richard Gatling, inventor the of the Gatling gun.
