A considerable improvement over the Martini family of rifles, this weapon contains an internal box magazine capable of holding 5 cartridges and it is operated by a bolt rather than a breech block lever. In the second to last chapter of this anthology, there are included several articles concerning both criticism and praise for this particular rifle. While not as sturdy as the Russian 1891 Mosin Nagant or as accurate and smooth as the German Mauser, it was a large step forward for British rifle technology.
