Boer War Mauser Rifle | The South African Mauser in Action

Uploaded by Chris Butler, this YouTube video depicts the firing and operation of an 1895 Boer Mauser. A smoother, sturdier rifle compared to the magazine Lee-Metford, the 1895 Mauser, chambered in the smokeless 7mm, proved to be both a powerful and accurate rifle in the hands of Boer commandos. For the British Army, this rifle was a glimpse at the growing giant that was German industrialism. The Mauser Gewehr 98 rifle would go on to become one of the most popular rifles in history, its action becoming the most ubiquitous among bolt-action rifles. Adopted by the Spanish as well as the Ottomon Empire to name a few, Mauser's rifle would serve as a symbol of German influence across the globe in the years leading to World War I.
