Poems Published in "The Voice of the Negro" Magazine
The magazine was initially published in Atlanta, but after the Atlanta race riots of September 1906 (see Du Bois' poem, "A Litany of Atlanta"), the editors moved the magazine to Chicago. The editors felt they had to move after one of the magazine's editors, Jesse Barber, had authored an editorial published in the New York World that accurately described the role of racist statements in the mainstream/white press in causing the riots.
