She Sent Him Away

She sent him away, with no word of love,
Though he'd wooed her many a day,
And she knew that his heart was all her own,
Yet, she coldly sent him away.

She sent him away, with his pleading eyes,
And heeded not look, nor tone,
But chained down her heart, when it struggled to rise
In respond, to the love in his own.

But when he had gone far, far fomr her side,
She found, --ah, lamentable day! --
That her heart had broken the chain of pride,
   And followed her lover away.
