Lewis Alexander, "Memory" (1928)
By Lewis Alexander
Forget? God grant I may forget.
But ah, the tortured I;
While winding down the trail, regret
I can't but breathe a sigh.
You ask too much to say, forget
When you have rent my heart
And bleeding sores are open yet
From your rude arrow's dart.
