The Kiplings and India: A Collection of Writings from British India, 1870-1900

Eurasian

English term describing people of mixed Asian and European ancestry. Though interracial marriage was forbidden in the Kiplings' time, Victorian India had a substantial Eurasian population from earlier in the colonial period. White English settlers (who referred to themselves as "Anglo-Indians" at the time) often looked down on Eurasians.
