African American Poetry: A Digital Anthology

Yetta Kay Stoddard, "For a Rose" (1922)

Rose of the dusk, my musk rose,
Perfumed bloom of fire and dream and dew,
Singing, I'm bringing the quietude of night to you.

God's hand and my hand
Enfold you and hold you close. Repose
In His care and my prayer. Fair, you understand?
